Makeup Removers: Affordable Options That WORK

May 17, 2010

I love the beautiful lady over at The Diary of a Divine Diva. I wanted my readers to love her too, So, I asked her for some makeup tips. Precious Pat V shares with you a review on makeup removing products.

Let’s face it, women, young ladies and teenagers cannot live without foundation, eye shadows, mascara, blushers and concealers. The joys of putting on makeup and the fun you have with playing with all the colors just give a person a youthful feeling.

I always take pride in my face because I have Eczema on my body and I use to be super scared of my snakeskin taking over my precious face.  (Also, my mother taught me that my face is my first introduction and I always want it to be a positive lasting impression.)

However, as much as I love to put on makeup before going out my house is as much as I hated to remove it off when I got in late at night. I just did not have a makeup remover I liked. Being that I have dry and sensitive skin, many products just made my face feel drier. In addition, I love to travel a lot without checking my luggage so I needed a non-liquid product. Makeup remover towelettes are easy to pack and best to use when you do not have access to water.

I started using Ponds, then M-A-C cleansing towelettes. I hated them both. I thought using the pricey products would be better and safer. After using M-A-C wacky towelettes my face would feel very dry and leaving a residue on my face liked soap.  I would have to use my Clearasil Oil Free Daily Face Wash to give me the smooth relaxing baby face to purify my skin. I totally love my Clearasil Oil Free daily face wash but I was in need of a new makeup remover.

After trying a couple of makeup removers, I have found two that delivers.

Neutrogena Makeup Remover Night Calming Cleansing Towelettes (SRP: $7.49): This is my first pick because with one towelette, I am able to remove all the makeup on my face. I can even remove stubborn waterproof mascara and eyeliner while leaving my skin feeling clean, soft, silky and moisturized. The cloths are sturdy, lightly scented and smooth, effectively cleaning my face. This product is a little more than product #2 but worth it.

L’Oreal Skin Genesis Micro-Smoothing Towelettes (SRP: $6.49): This is my second pick because it is not as useful as product #1. This towelette is just like product #1 because it does not leave dirty scum behind. It has a pleasant smell and do not leave your face as dry compare to the other products I tried. It makes my face feel smooth and clean but it does not leave the moisturized feeling like product #1. The cloths are strong but sometime I have to use two in order to remove my makeup especially waterproof mascara and eyeliner.

Sashaying Off,

Editor’s Note: I recently tried Ava Anderson Eye Makeup Remover Pads (SRP:  14.95) and was able to remove my makeup with ease (well, almost with ease… my mascara was a little stubborn.)  These completely non-toxic, single-use remover pads use a combination of flower extracts and there is no alcohol to dry the delicate skin around the eyes.
