Beach Wear: Will Your Choice Sink or Swim?

While I am on vacation in the Caribbean, I asked my favorite lady, Réal Hamilton-Romeo, to give you some tips on choosing the right swim suit for your body. We all see the unflattering paparazzi-shot photos of our favorite Black celebrities on the beach with the oh-so-UN-sexy pieces. Here’s Réal’s opinion:

As we all know, Memorial Day Weekend is the “unofficial” start of summer – and nothing could be more synonymous with summer than the beach. While the temps might not be soaring yet, there’s no reason we can’t prepare to bare – almost – all! Now, my fellow black beauties, we all come in many shapes and sizes, so it’s best to remember to dress for your body type – and not the sales rack.

For members of the “itty-bitty-titty committee” triangle tops are a must – especially those with patterns or embellishments. They keep the emphasis on the bust in a good way.

Calling all “Big-Booty-Judies!” No need to fit your derriere into a suit that is unflattering – read: rides up and gives you a wedgie – when there are plenty of options to enhance your best asset. If you must don a bikini, get one where the bottoms sit low on your hips, has an asymmetrical cut, or a wide/fold-over waistband.

Now, many of us have had babies and may not be quite back to “pre-baby” status, or maybe you just have a little “muffin-top” or “cake-batter” action going on fear not there is a suit for you. Tankinis, one-pieces with color-blocking, ruching, or belts will cleverly camouflage your problem areas.
