CLEAR Secrets For Perfect Skin

This summer can be havoc on your skin. That’s why I had a chat with Paula Begun, skincare expert and bestselling author of Don’t Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me.  Paula shared with me Acne C.L.E.A.R. Skin Tips that protects against summer heat:

  • Clean Twice Daily: Even If you don’t have acne, as teenagers the glands in the face can produce excess oil, resulting in breakouts. The easiest way to prevent acne is to wash your face twice a day with gentle acne soap.  Keeping hair off face can also help prevent more oil and dirt from transferring to skin.
  • Layoff Greasy Foods: Notice more breakouts after eating a cheeseburger and fries?  No, the grease isn’t directly causing your breakout, but diet can play a key role in how your skin reacts since foods high in fat can result in a sluggish digestive process, which in turn gives rise to a number of skin disorders, including breakouts.  Instead, opt for fruits and vegetables, and drink a cup of water every hour.
  • Exfoliate with AHA or BHA: Are breakouts on your hairline making too much of a statement?  Start by avoiding shampoos with conditioning (e.g. proteins, silicon, quaternium) or thickening agents (e.g. acetyl alcohol).  To treat existing and prevent future breakouts, gently cleanse and exfoliate with an AHA or BHA product.
  • Avoid Moisturizers: If you have oily skin, do not use moisturizer, even if it’s oil free!  Your face is already producing an excess amount of oil and there is no need to add more.  Instead, apply a thin layer of milk of magnesia on your face to make it look less oily.
  • Remove Surface Pimples: Need to pop that prominent pimple fast before your date?  You can in 3 easy steps. First, cleanse and dry your skin. Next, using the flat of your finger tips (not your nails) place your fingers on the edge of the red swelling. The final step is to gently push down and in on the swelling. If that doesn’t release the contents the first time, change the positioning of your fingers and try again. If that doesn’t work, you are done. REMEMBER, never scratch, itch or burn your pimple!

Paula has her own blog called The Beauty Bunch, check it out.
