Vaseline: The Must-Have Beauty Essential

August 25, 2010

Vaseline is one of my favorite products. I’ve always used it as a child and credit it to my super soft skin as an adult. A few years ago, Tyra Banks said her must have fashion accessory was Vaselineeven Marilyn Monroe used the petroleum jelly as a night-time moisturizer. Here’s my top 10 beauty uses for Vaseline (don’t forget to try it):

  1. Makeup Remover
  2. Applied under eye shadow it can create a shiny effect. Also, use with your lipstick to create a cream blusher for your cheeks
  3. Defines eyelashes and leaves them with a glossy and waterproof look. It also tames unruly eyebrows
  4. Can be used as a moisturizer for acne sufferers (it is a misconception that it clogs pores)
  5. Helps reduce scarring
  6. Helps heal and protect new tattoos
  7. Prevents lips from sticking to teeth for celebrities and contestants in beauty pageants who smile a lot (It also moisturizes dry, chapped lips)
  8. Used in manicures under cuticles. It also keeps fingernails pliable and resilient
  9. Can be used in massages
  10. Maintains perfume scent longer when applied at perfume points before spritzing the perfume

And, I don’t have a child yet, but I’ve heard that Vaseline helps heal cracked nipples caused by breast feeding.

Tell me: what’s your Vaseline secret?

I know a lot of people that really like the stuff. In addition many doctors recommend it for many of the things listed above. Growing up it was the must have in my home. Often times it would often to used on our hair. But it is a petrochemical. The production and use of the product is horrible for the environment, therefore I can’t see how it would be beneficial to the body. Personally, I hate the feel, smell and texture of the stuff. As an adult knowing the damage it does to the body and environment I prefer to use natural products.

Olive oil (cheap and expensive work the same): makeup remover, moisturizer (body and hair), stretch marks, massage oil (add any essential oil such as lavender, orange, peppermint etc to give it a exotic kick)

    Coconut oil: same as above
Unrefined Shea butter: same as above

And the list goes on and on. Don’t get in buying expensive products many household products are just as if not more effective and kind to your pockets

I love using Vaseline on my lips but I so wonder why it creates that annoying white line especially if you’re dehydrated…do you know the answer? LOL Like the reader above, I love Organic Olive oil and unrefined Shea butter (I melt it myself) on my skin and hair! Thanks for the list. I didn’t know it could be used as a make up remover!
