I don’t work out. And, one of the reasons why is because I’m a slave to my hair. Most Black women have the same dilemma, expensive time-consuming hairstyles and maintenance prevent us from a fitness routine. For the women who are not ready to
join the natural movement, there are a number of hair care options that will give us piece of mind as we are working out on the treadmill. The inspiration of this blog post came from a recent article that I read in the
Miami Herald called, “Let’s Move meets Good Hair”
Black, non-Hispanic women are more likely to be obese than any other group, according to a 2008 survey by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Thirty-nine percent of black women report a body mass index of at least 30 — the lower limit for obesity. That has to change. We need to start choosing our health and body over our hair.
Other than wearing hair in the natural state, there are some other great hairstyle options like human hair extensions and maybe even boxed braids or corn rolls. Here are some products that will help you maintain your ‘do while you are burning those calories, strenghtening muscles and toning up.
Dri Sweat Women’s Active Wear Mesh Cap

This is an solution to preserving your style, since it keeps your head cool during exercise. The cap also has a built-in headband feature that absorbs sweat.
And the Dri Sweat Fit Women’s Active Wear Style Protector includes a ponytail outlet.

I also found a rejuvenating styling serum from Emtage Hair called SILKtáge that is an exotic blend of organic botantical oils to soften, smooth, shine and protect all hair types. The serum absorbs into hair without leaving and oily residue behind, creating silky smooth texture and shine.

Here’s a before and after photo that shows how great this botantical product works after curling and styling.
