I love the blog Chic Chocolate. The blogger of that site posted about the must-haves fashion pieces for the upcoming fall season. I am absolutely in love with Fall – it’s the biggest fashion season and I can’t wait to see what my fav designers at Banana Republic, Ann Taylor and Victoria’s Secret create.
Sidebar: I was a little frustrated finding the right looks for this blog post. It was very difficult scouring the Internet looking for fashion staples on Black women. What’s up with that? Ann Taylor and Banana Republic — even Victoria’s Secret — hire black models to sell their looks. I guess not this season.
Every woman needs a few pairs of black shoes — in different styles — but the most important style is the basic black pump. The workhorse of shoes, a good black pump can take you from day into evening without losing a step. I love these pumps because of the mid-heel. I don’t wear high heels, so I can still look sexy and chic in the lower heels. My feet will thank me one day.
I am in love with Burberry — especially after my best friend bought me my first quilted coat a few years ago for my birthday. Structured and stylish, it’s a true classic.
White button-down shirt (one cotton, one silky). Fitted ones will get the most wear: They’re easier to tuck in and look neat when left out. This body suit from Victoria’s Secret is perfect because you won’t have to worry about your white shirt staying tucked in. I have a few that I always wear with my pencil skirts.
Dark-wash jeans are just plain ole sexy and will NEVER go out of style (they also make anyone look sexy.) A wardrobe standby in the cooler months that’s available in a variety of cuts. Keep in mind that boot-cut and wide-leg styles work well over boots.
Skinny jeans. Once considered a trend, they are now a denim staple. Skinny jeans look best when they don’t fit too snugly at the waist. Almost every issue of Essence magazine highlights PZI jeans they are roomier in the booty and thighs — but small in the waiste — just like most of us Black women are built. I have a few pairs of these babies and they fit like a glove.
A cotton or lightweight jacket is a pulled-together layer that can be removed when the temperature rises.
Pencil skirt. This classic piece should be tailored so it grazes the tops of the knees.
The “little black dress” is a cliche for a reason: It’s a wardrobe necessity.
I have a few beautiful bags from the Epi Leather collection. I love the stunning Epi Leather Speedy Bag from Louis Vuitton. It’s a perfect shape and size that could work well with casual and professional looks. Overall, it’s an easy grab-and-go bag with shiny hardware that will last a lifetime. Ahhh, it pays to buy luxury.
