Covered only by her flowing hair and a single vine of ivy, Pastry cofounder and designer Angela Simmons is the star of a brand-new ad campaign for PETA that reads, “Eating Meat Is a Sin: Go Vegetarian.” Simmons—also known for starring with her family on MTV’s Run’s House—joined PETA and GlobalGrind.com to unveil the campaign in person at New York’s Paramount Hotel on Tuesday.
“As a devout Christian, I feel it’s very important to show compassion for all of God’s creation—and adopting a vegetarian diet is the best way to keep innocent animals from suffering,” says Simmons, whose new vegetarian outreach efforts follow in the compassionate footsteps of her uncle Russell Simmons, a longtime PETA supporter and vegan activist.
From the meat industry’s rampant abuse of animals and environmental devastation to the tremendous health benefits of following a vegan diet, there are countless reasons why millions around the globe are leaving meat off their plates for good. Meat consumption has been linked to some of our nation’s leading health ailments, including heart disease, obesity, diabetes, strokes, and cancer. Embracing a healthy, humane vegetarian diet has never been easier.
Simmons joins a long list of celebrities—including Eva Mendes, Taraji P. Henson, and Khloe Kardashian—who have bared all for PETA to promote animal protection.
