Simple Perfect Curls (Carol’s Daughter Hair Care Review)

August 27, 2012
By

I’m always open to trying new products that will enhance my naturally curly hair. So when I attended the Carol’s Daughter Transitioning Movement private collection unveil in May, I was delighted at the new options available to coif my coils.

I immediately tried the Hair Milk Simple. Perfect. Curls collection, which is “specifically designed for curly girls who have more to do than just their hair.” The systems consists of a Co-Wash Cleansing Conditioner (I liken this to the WEN Cleansing Conditioner – although I haven’t tried it yet) that gently cleanses and detangles, the Original & Lite Leave-In Moisturizers to lock in moisture, and the Pudding to define and hold your curls.

When I washed my hair with the Co-Wash Cleansing Conditioner, my hair felt A-MAZING! It was so soft – not like washing with regular shampoo where your hair can sometimes feel dry, brittle or brassy. I loved it! I squeezed the excess water from my hair and applied the Lite Leave-In Moisturizer and the Pudding. My hair didn’t feel as weightless as it does with my usual leave-in conditioner for curly hair, but I was determined to see this through. As my hair dried throughout the day (which took several more hours than usual), I noticed that my curls weren’t as full; my ringlets were very defined but there were less of them, and they almost looked stringy.

The next day, I tried again, but did not use the pudding. I got pretty much the same results. I wondered why I got the same results and I realized that my hair already holds a great deal of moisture, so it looked greasy and heavy with the Hair Milk system. I decided to try the system on my daughter, who has dry, chemically- treated hair. At the hair salon, the stylist washed her hair with the Co-Wash Cleansing Conditioner and instantly felt the difference. Her hair felt wonderfully and it was easy to manage. Afterward, he applied the Lite Leave-In Moisturizer and roller set and blow dried my daughter’s hair. I could not believe how much softer and thoroughly hydrated my daughter’s hair felt without that greasy feeling I experienced. Her hair was shiny for DAYS without me having to apply serum or hairdressing daily. I loved the results in my little one’s hair so much that I have asked my stylist to use the Co-Wash Cleansing Conditioner each week.

In three easy steps – cleanse, moisturize and style – you too can have defined, nourished curls all day. What’s the secret to the Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk collection? The blend of agave nectar, cocoa and shea butters, pro-vitamin B5, soybean, wheat germ and avocado oils and guar gum is the secret to attaining the perfect curly style.

  • AGAVE NECTAR: locks in intense moisture and shine
  • COCOA & SHEA BUTTERS: detangle and deeply condition for manageability
  • PRO-VITAMIN B5: helps strengthen hair from root to tip
  • SOYBEAN, WHEAT GERM & AVOCADO OILS: soften and strengthen hair
  • GUAR GUM: provides flake- and reside-free curl definition and hold

Lesson learned: Hair Milk is great for natural and chemically treated hair, but seems to work better on hair that is normal to dry. Also, if you like tamer curls, I would highly recommend this system. I tend to like my curls to look very natural (read: not like I “treated it with product”) and slightly wild.

You can find Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk collection at Carol’s Daughter stores, CarolsDaughter.com, Sephora stores, Macy’s, Dillard’s and Regis Salons.
